Recipe: Czech Chocolate
In Prague Czech Republic my family had been making and selling chocolates, pastries and baked goods for almost a century before immigrating to The United States and settling originally in Kansas. When my great grandmother passed away I was given her confectionery recipes that her mother started writing and developing back in Prague.
I've studied the recipes carefully and some of these original recipes are used by Santa Barbara Chocolate Co. today. Here's one of my great grandmother's European Czech recipes which is very easy and a perfect summer time tasty treat for Fourth of July (I modernized it slightly by including a blender):
Serves: 1
2 large bananas peeled
1/2 cup whole milk (the original recipe called for goat yogurt)
2 tablespoons cocoa powder (Our Red Cocoa works great - make sure the cocoa you use is alkalized / "Dutch Process" this is very important for the mixing)
1 vanilla bean of scraped seeds (1 tsp vanilla extract as an alternative)
1 teaspoon caraway seed
8 medium ice cubes
Place everything in the blender and blend high until smooth.
Squeeze a few drops of lime onto the top of the chocolate drink once poured.
Enjoy ice cold with a garnish of lime.
Happy Fourth of July! The USA is a great place to be and we are all very lucky.
